DENVER (AP) The Denver Nuggets have signed first-round pick Jamal Murray and agreed to a deal with veteran Mike Miller.

Murray was the seventh overall pick in the NBA draft last month. The shooting guard is expected to play a big part in turning around a franchise that’s missed the playoffs the past three seasons. Murray is coming off a freshman season at Kentucky in which he averaged 20 points a game – the highest scoring average for a Wildcats player under coach John Calipari. Murray managed to nearly replicate his average in the Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 19.6 points across five games. With Mudiay and Murray manning the backcourt, Denver’s future is brightening.

The 36-year-old Miller played only 373 minutes last season but served a valuable role as a mentor on a young squad. His deal reportedly is for two years.

Miller was picked fifth overall by Orlando in 2000. He’s also played for Cleveland, Memphis, Miami, Washington and Minnesota.
