Nate Schierholtz, who played for the Giants from 2007-2012, has been suspended 80 games after testing positive for ibutamoren, a growth hormone that violates MLB’s performance-enhancing drugs policy.

Schierholtz, 32, was part of the deal with the Philadelphia Phillies that brought Hunter Pence to San Francisco and has bounced around baseball ever since. He last played in the majors with the Nationals in 2014. He spent the 2015 season playing in the Japan Central League, then signed a minor-league deal with the Tigers last offseason and hit .246 in 31 games for their Triple-A affiliate in Toledo.

Over his six-year Giants career, Schierholtz slashed .270/.319/.410 in 1,316 plate appearances. He went to San Ramon Valley High School in Danville, California and was drafted by the Giants in the second round in 2003.
