The 49ers must go from 75 players to 53 on Saturday by 1 p.m.

They’ve made their first cut of the day.

Former Stanford wide receiver Devon Cajuste has been released by the club, according to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. The undrafted rookie caught one pass for 40 yards in the preseason.

UPDATE: Matt Maiocco reports Ryan Whelan has been cut, too.

Here’s what the current wide receiving depth chart looks like:

Torrey Smith

Quinton Patton

Jeremy Kerley

Dres Anderson

DeAndrew White

Aaron Burbridge

DeAndre Smelter

This 49ers’ wide receiving class room could look much different for Tuesday’s Week 1 game-planning meeting for the Los Angeles Rams. Playmakers hitting the open market include former 6-foot-4 Tennessee Titan Justin Hunter and former Cleveland Browns speedster Taylor Gabriel.

Hunter underachieved as a second round pick out of the University of Tennessee. The 5-foot-9 Gabriel has exceeded expectations as an undrafted free agent out of Abilene Christian, and could be used as a gadget player.

Both players have more of a proven track record than a number of youngsters on San Francisco’s depth chart and are worth keeping an eye on as Baalke tries to improve this roster.
