49ers offensive lineman Anthony Davis suffered a concussion Thursday in practice, and he promptly reported it to the medical staff. The team has ruled him out for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.

Davis logged a few snaps in garbage time in the 49ers’ 28-0 win over the Rams on Monday night. Although he’s a backup tackle, Davis was a nice insurance piece to have off the bench. It’s anticipated that rookie first-round pick Joshua Garnett will replace him on the active game day roster.

Davis continued his bizarre yet humorous behavior in the locker room Wednesday. Reporters corned him to clarify his recent retirement antics, but both he and Chip Kelly said it was all one giant miscommunication. Davis is no longer playing right guard, a position he was penciled in as the starter in late August. He gave one word answers and playfully stared into reporters’ eyes. Of course, he abruptly retired in June of 2015 and sat out all of last season. Davis did suffer a concussion in 2014, and missed an extended period of time.

Defensive linemen Arik Amstead (shoulder), Quinton Dial (knee) and Glenn Dorsey (knee) were removed from the injury list and will all play big roles Sunday in trying to stop Cam Newton.

Safety Marcus Cromartie, nickel back Chris Davis (hamstring), cornerback Keith Reaser, and starting right guard Andrew Tiller (ankle) are all listed as questionable.
