National treasure Vin Scully is finishing up his last year in the broadcast booth with the Dodgers. To honor his legendary career, both KNBR and CSN Bay Area will pick up Scully’s call for the 3rd inning of the game between the Giants and Dodgers on Oct. 2, the regular season finale for both teams.

Scully, 88, has been broadcasting Dodgers games for 67 years and has been on the call for 25 World Series matchups. He was also on the mic to call the NFC Championship Game between the 49ers and Cowboys on January 10, 1982, a game known for ‘The Catch’ when Joe Montana connected with Dwight Clark for the game-winning touchdown.

The Giants enter Monday’s game against the Dodgers five games back of their Southern California rivals in the division. Monday’s game is the first of three in Los Angeles before the two teams close out the season with three games at AT&T Park from Sept. 30-Oct. 2.

Scully told reporters on a conference call Monday that he will not extend his broadcast career for a Dodgers playoff run.

“I didn’t want to say goodbye like they do in grand opera,” Scully said. “They say goodbye 25 times in 15 minutes. . . . We will tie the ribbon on the package in San Francisco and that will be that.”
