The Barry Bonds experiment lasted one year with the Miami Marlins. The organization is relieving the assistant hitting coach of his duties, according to Jon Heyman.

The Marlins finished the season 79-82, a respectable mark for a young team rebuilding. And the results at the plate weren’t half bad either. Miami finished fourth in baseball in batting average (.263), but the team was 26th in runs scored (655). Miami also is still dealing with the tragic death of All-Star pitcher Jose Fernandez from a September boating accident.

Reports are surfacing that Bonds’ commitment level was questioned by manager Don Mattingly. The Marlins are releasing other coaches in addition to Bonds.

The Giants currently employ Hensley Meulens as the hitting coach and he’s been with the team for seven seasons. Could Bonds be a fit in San Francisco as Meulens assistant? There might be an internal discussion about him becoming a consultant, or a special instructor at the very least.

The Giants gave Bonds a tremendously warm welcome when he returned in April. We have the video below.
