The Giants find themselves in a tough position as Game 3 of the NLDS approaches, in an 0-2 hole against a Chicago Cubs team that had the best record in the majors this year.

If San Francisco is going to make another improbable comeback it starts Monday night, and Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow told the Murph and Mac Show that the Giants should be in a good position with the dominant Madison Bumgarner taking the bump, trying to extended his streak of 23 consecutive scoreless playoff innings.

“You’ve got the greatest postseason pitcher in history on the hill,” Krukow said. “It’s certainly not something that can’t be done and here’s the bottom line and the most important thing: They believe they can do this, and because of that I do too.”

Bumgarner gave the Giants their first excellent pitching performance of the 2016 postseason, with another shutout in the NL Wild Card playoff. Johnny Cueto gave the Giants their second one in Game 1, but San Francisco spoiled that performance by not scoring a single run. Krukow said that those are the kind’ve opportunities San Francisco has to take from here on out to make an improbable comeback.

“This Cubs team does not beat themselves. They’re very confident, they are very athletic, they’ve got threats up and down the lineup, so you have to play good baseball. You cannot beat yourself and you have to take advantage of that one break that they give you. That’s what this game tonight is going to be all about.”

If the Giants are able to get the win tonight, everything changes.

“You win one game and everybody’s going to think they can do it. That’s the magic and the emotion of where we are right now in the series.”

“They will show up tonight, that I promise.”
