Warriors pull off rare feat in Las Vegas gambling circles

For the first time in nearly two decades, the NBA has an odds-on favorite to win the title.

According to most Vegas sports books, it is more likely that the Golden State Warriors win the NBA title than any other scenario where they don’t win it, with the odds around -125. That means you’d have to put up $125 to win $100 according to Oddshark, something that is unheard of when it comes to picking a preseason title favorite in any sport.

The last time a team was favored to the point where gamblers would stand to win less money than you bet was the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls, who were coming off a then record 72-win regular season and an NBA title, according to Jeff Sherman, head NBA oddsmaker at the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas.

Sherman could not recall a team in any sport other than the Warriors and Bulls that was an odds-on favorite to start the season.

Here’s a full lust of the championship odds

Warriors 2-3

Cavaliers 11-4

Spurs 6-1

Clippers 20-1

Celtics 20-1

Thunder 30-1

Raptors 40-1
