The World Series is still going on, but the San Francisco Giants are making a roster move.

MLB Trade Rumors and CSN Bay Area’s Alex Pavlovic are reporting the club has agreed to terms with starting pitcher Josh Johnson. The deal is a minor league contract.

Once one of the bigger names in baseball, the 32-year-old has not pitched since 2013. He had Tommy John surgery for the second and third time of his career in 2014 and 2015. He was under contract with the San Diego Padres at that time

The 6-foot-7, 250-pounder made his mark with the Florida Marlins in the mid 2000s, earning two All-Star appearances and tossed a league leading 2.30 ERA in 2011.

This move should be viewed as more of a flier than anything from executives Brian Sabean and Bobby Evans. It’s expected that Matt Cain and Ty Blach will compete for the No. 5 role in the starting rotation.

Or maybe the Giants will even try to convert the power-throwing righty as a relief pitcher in spring training.
