Giants general manager Bobby Evans said that the team would make addressing their issues at closer priority number one this offseason, and according a team official, he’s about to make good on that promise.
Yahoo Sport’s Jeff Passan reported on Friday that a Giants official told him the team will be signing one of the ‘big’ closers on the open market, and that San Francisco will be meeting in person with Mark Melancon on Friday.
Giants official early this week: “We are getting one of the big closers.” Mark Melancon scheduled to be in SF today for an in-person visit.

Melancon, along with Aroldis Chapman and Kenley Jansen, is one of the three top-tier closers on the free agent market this offseason, and is a player that the Giants reportedly attempted to trade for at the deadline, before ultimately being outbid by the Washington Nationals.
Evans also met with Chapman’s agent on Wednesday.
Malancon, 31, was one of the most dominant closers in all of baseball in 2016 for the third consecutive season, posting a 1.51 ERA and notching 30 saves with a save percentage of 90 percent.
The Giants lead the MLB in blown saves with 30 in 2016.
