After putting together a string of impressive starts, discussion has been swirling this week as to whether or not Colin Kaepernick may return to the 49ers next season.

Thursday’s news may be an indication that Kaepernick is leaning in the other direction, however, with the Los Angeles Times reporting that the quarterback has put his San Jose area home up for sale.

Kaepernick and the 49ers restructured his six-year contract extension two months ago, allowing him to become a free agent in the offseason.

The 29-year-old’s departure this offseason seemed like a forgone conclusion just a few weeks ago, but his performance in the last few games, as well as his apparent comfort in Chip Kelly’s system, has caused some to kick around the idea that he might have the potential to be an option at quarterback next year. Kaepernick has thrown for over 1,000 yards in has past four games combined.

When asked about his plans after this season, Kaepernick remained tight-lipped.

“I’m focused on Chicago this week,” Kaepernick said. “I’m not thinking that far down the road.”

The four-bedroom, 5.5-bath, 4,600-square foot gated home is going for $2.9 million.
