Steve Kerr has ‘definitely considered’ playing Westbrook with Warriors during All-Star Game

Steve Kerr has refused to give a concrete answer to who is going to share the floor with the four Warriors during the All-Star Game on Sunday. He did, however, tell ESPN Radio on Friday, that he has given thought to playing Russell Westbrook with Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson at some point.

“I’ve definitely considered it,” Kerr told ESPN Radio on Thursday.

“The only thing that you have to do as a coach in the All-Star Game is to parcel out the minutes. That’s it. You don’t draw up any plays. At least I don’t; I didn’t two years ago. So we’ve got to figure out the minutes, and I have thought about it, and I’m not going to share it with you here today.”

Though it would make for must see television, even if they don’t play together, no one exactly knows what the dynamic is going to be like when Durant and Westbrook share a locker room for the first time since his departure for the Warriors this summer, especially on the heels of an extremely contentious matchup in Oklahoma City on February 11.

“Everybody loves drama, man,” Durant told ESPN. “It feels like we’re in a big soap opera. A reality TV show. So many people want to know about our relationship, or a phone call, instead of worrying about the game, which is the most important thing. And I’m sure both of us and the rest of the players feel the same way.”

Though he won’t reveal who the fifth player will be, Kerr did confirm that he will play the four Warriors together at some point on Sunday.

Curry mentioned that Green is the person most likely to play icebreaker when it comes to lightening the mood between Westbrook and Durant this weekend. Green said he’d embrace that role.

“I definitely look forward to being an icebreaker in a situation like that,” he said. “You know, we’re All-Stars. Steve Kerr is coaching the All-Star Game, and everyone has earned the opportunity to be an All-Star. I don’t think you take any tension, if you will, or anything from the regular season into an All-Star locker room. At the end of the day, you’re 12 guys who have earned a right to be an All-Star in this league, which we all know it’s not easy. There’s a lot of great players in the league.”

“I don’t pay attention to all the hype — Russell Westbrook is in with the Warriors. Yeah, he plays for OKC. We play for the Warriors. However, we all play for the West this weekend.”
