Kate Scott calls into the Murph and Mac show

A familiar voice made her return to the Murph and Mac show on Tuesday morning.

Pac-12 broadcaster and former KNBR anchor Kate Scott gave Paulie Mac and P Con a buzz, first to update us on what’s new with her, and secondly to talk Stanford Women’s basketball, who will be returning to the Final 4.

“It was so tough for me to leave you guys, and KNBR, and radio — cause I love radio,” Scott said. “And I hope to get back into it one day. But with the schedule and the travel it just wasn’t working out. So since then, it has been an absolute whirlwind. Because my last day at KNBR was a Thursday. And literally two hours after I left you guys, I was at the Oakland airport flying to Seattle for my first Women’s basketball play-by-play game of the season. And since then, I’ve been traveling every single week, doing play-by-play for women’s basketball or reporting on men’s basketball. Got to cover the Pac-12 tournament in Seattle. I got to call my first football game on the Pac-12 Network last week, calling the Oregon State spring football game. … Things are fantastic, Paulie Mac.”

Scott’s assignment this weekend will be revolving around the legendary Stanford women’s program, headed by Tara VanDerveer. Paulie Mac asked Scott why is that Stanford and Connecticut are so much better than the rest of the teams around the country.

“I actually grew up watching Stanford Women’s basketball and it’s probably going to piss off a lot of my Cal fans,” Scott said. “I mean what are the chances I’m back on KNBR and talking Stanford. But anyway, I grew up actually wanting to play basketball at Stanford when I was a little girl because of the program that Tara had put together. Because she’s been there now for 31 years. And they always looked like, not only were they having so much fun playing, they were fundamentally sound and they were really good basketball players, And I thought, that’s what I want to do in college. I want to play college basketball for Tara at Stanford.

“So now for the past few years hanging out with her, and having conference calls with her, and sit on the bench before games, and ask her, ‘Okay, what is the game plan?’ And have her actually go from player to player. ‘This is what Bri Roberson’s going to do, this is what Alanna Smith needs to do. In order for us to win, Erica McCall has to do this.’ It’s so interesting to see it’s really all about the coaching.”
