If you’ve spent any time watching Giants baseball over the last several years you know that Bruce Bochy loves to play his matchups, especially in the later innings. The offseason addition of veteran Aaron Hill will allow the Giants’ skipper to mix and match his right and left-handed hitters without sacrificing defense or power in the lineup.

Hill, who started his career as a second baseman, has redefined himself as a bench asset in recent years entering the game in the seventh or eighth innings as a pinch hitter and defensive replacement. His .989 career fielding percentage is good for fourth among all active second basemen and his 10 home runs last season as a fill-in prove the two-time Silver Slugger hasn’t lost much power even without consistent at-bats.

Hill stopped by The Audible on KNBR 1050 to talk about how he prepares for his new role with the team, “It’s getting where you know you need to be. Taking some at second, taking some feeds, taking some fly balls, hitting off the machine, curveballs, sliders. If you know you did everything today that gets you ready for the game then what happens happens and you’re fine with the results, whatever they may be.”

Hill is expected to fill in at second, third, and spend some time in left field.
