49ers release KD Cannon

In a bizarre move that Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch will be asked about, the 49ers released KD Cannon on Sunday.

A week ago, Cannon was heralded as possibly the best undrafted prospect on the market. The 49ers reportedly gave him a hefty contract for a player who wasn’t drafted.

The team held a rookie minicamp this weekend. It’s unclear whether Cannon was outperformed by some of the tryout players or an incident off the field happened. The 49ers cut 13 players last week to make room for all the undrafted players they signed.

The 5-foot-11 Cannon caught 27 touchdown passes and 195 balls in three seasons at Baylor.
