Highlight: Buster Posey launches walk-off home run in 17th inning

SAN FRANCISCO – It was exactly 1 a.m. Saturday morning when Buster Posey’s moonshot home run crashed into the empty left field bleachers inside AT&T Park.

And for the sake of the confidence of an otherwise shaky bullpen, Posey is glad it did.

“It was just such a confidence boost for our bullpen,” the catcher remarked in the dugout after the five hour and forty-five minute affair. “They did a great job with a potent offense. Johnny pitched great.”

Bruce Bochy is just glad his team’s morale avoided having to absorb another heart-breaking blow.

“It’s a part of baseball, much needed win. I mean if we had lost this one who knows how that would have affected our struggles, but this was a huge win.”

Much like the few fans left at the park nearly six hours after first pitch, the Giants were just ready to go to bed with at least of a few of their available pitchers still intact.

“I think Buster had enough. That was huge for us because [Cory] Gearrin is down, he’s at the end of his line and Cain was the next guy.”

The Giants and Reds will turn around and do it all over again merely 12 hours after the end of Friday night’s marathon, with first pitch of Saturday’s game slated for 1:05 p.m.
