Frandsen on instant replay: umpires ‘should be right 100% of the time’

Kevin Frandsen of KNBR 1050’s morning show The Audible jumped in the KNBR Digital Lab to discuss a controversial made during last night’s Giants game.

Brandon Belt appeared to slide in safely at second for a double, but after umpires reviewed the call, they determined that Belt came off the bag while being tagged and ruled him out.

A similar scenario occurred during last nights Cubs-Padres game, when Anthony Rizzo was ruled out at home after review, even though it appeared that Rizzo was safe.

Frandsen believes missed-calls like these are due to the MLB’s inability to hold umpires accountable, despite the league’s instant replay system.

“Umpires on the field have a tough job, I get that,” says Frandsen. “But then they can go to review and see this whole thing, and they should get it right 100 percent of the time.”
