49ers, 28 other NFL teams to receive $55 million each from relocation fees [report]

It pays to stick around, apparently.  The 49ers and the 28 other NFL teams that didn’t recently change (or vote to change) cities are set to receive $55 million each thanks to the relocation fees paid by the Chargers, Rams and Raiders. According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, the Chargers and Rams will each pay $645 million for the right to move to Los Angeles, while the Raiders will fork over $378 million for their move to Las Vegas.

None of the three teams will begin making their relocation payments, which are intended to offset the projected increase in franchise value, until at least 2019. So it will be a while before the 49ers see any of the $55 million they’re in line to receive, but that’s a hefty payday that will one day come down the pipe.

The Packers, a publicly owned team, announced they will receive about $27.1 million from the relocations after taxes. According to Rovell, the money will be paid out to the 29 teams that didn’t relocate over a period of up to 11 years.
