Paul Gackle, a San Jose Sharks beat reporter for the San Jose Mercury News, was stabbed multiple times in his San Jose home around 2:20 a.m. Friday according to the paper. Gackle was taken to the hospital on a stretcher shortly after, but his injuries are not considered life threatening. The female suspect is still at-large.

Police responded to a Redbird Drive residence at 2:20 a.m., after receiving a 911 call, and found Gackle “suffering from at least one stab wound,” according to ABC 7. After being stabbed, Gackle went to a nearby store and received no response, then went next door to his neighbors, who called the police.

The motive and circumstances surrounding the stabbing are currently unknown.

According to his website, Gackle has been covering sports since he was a teenager in North Dakota for the McLean County Independent. He has also had his byline in the San Francisco Examiner, Winnipeg Free Press, the East Bay Times and appeared on PBS Frontline. In addition to his Sharks duties, Gackle also occasionally covers the Giants for the Mercury News.
