SANTA CLARA – In between his mingling with guests at KNBR’s 2017 Dinner With A Legend at Michael Mina’s Bourbon Steak & Pub at Levi’s Stadium, San Francisco 49ers General Manager John Lynch took some time to chat with Larry Krueger about the upcoming season.
With preseason right around the corner (49ers kick off the preseason schedule in Kansas City on Fri, Aug 11) Larry asked Lynch about how the team will treat the exhibition games with so many new faces on the roster.
“We’re a new group,” said Lynch. “We understand that even though we have some guys who have kind of earned that right (to sit out the majority of the preseason), we need them to play. Because we need to evaluate the team as a whole.
“There will be some guys who play less, and some of that may be health related, but really Kyle (Shanahan) and I have talked about, ‘hey we need snaps.'”
Generally speaking, NFL starters will play the first quarter of the first preseason game, the first half of the second game, three full quarters of the third game and then back down to only the first quarter the week before the season starts. Time will tell how the new 49ers regime will play their starters.
