SAN FRANCISCO–Players, coaches and fans alike were forced to hold their breath during a scary moment during Friday evening’s game at AT&T Park.

In the bottom half of the sixth inning, Giants’ first baseman Brandon Belt was hit in the helmet by an Anthony Banda curveball and went straight to the ground.

Belt, who has a history dealing with head injuries, received attention from the Giants’ medical staff as well as manager Bruce Bochy, who came to his side and helped Belt walk off the field.

Belt tied his career-high with his 18th home run of the season in the Giants’ 11-2 victory over the A’s on Thursday, and started Friday’s game 0-for-his-first-2 at the plate before taking a 78-mile-per-hour curveball off of his helmet.

The No. 3 hitter in the Giants’ lineup on Friday has missed four games due to injury since the All-Star break, and all four were due to a wrist injury he suffered in San Diego.
