49ers sign veteran defensive lineman to one-year deal

The San Francisco 49ers’ defensive line was already one of the team’s deepest units.

On Wednesday morning, it just got deeper.

The 49ers announced the signing of veteran Sen’Derrick Marks, who entered the league as a second round draft choice of the Tennessee Titans back in 2009. The 30-year-old Marks is an interior defensive lineman who has 150 tackles and 19 sacks over an eight-year NFL career.

Marks spent the first four seasons of his career in Tennessee before playing four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Though he hasn’t been a full-time starter since 2014, Marks started 46 of the 48 games he played in from 2012-2014.

Marks’ best season came in 2014 with the Jaguars, when he set a career-high with 8.5 sacks.

An Auburn product, Marks was released by Jacksonville on March 9, 2017 and had not found a home until signing with the 49ers on Wednesday.

Though it’s unlikely Marks will have an opportunity to start in San Francisco, he has the potential to serve as a veteran leader for a unit that’s one of the team’s most talented, but also one of the team’s youngest.
