Caleb Gindl has spent parts of ten seasons bouncing around in the Minor Leagues as an outfielder. On Monday night, however, it was on the mound where Gindl caught the attention of those watching him.

On Monday night, Gindl pitched two scoreless innings of relief in the Richmond Flying Squirrels 15-inning, 2-1 win over the Altoona Curve.

The 28-year-old Gindl started the game at center field for the Flying Squirrels, the San Francisco Giants Double-A affiliate, and went 1-for-7 at the plate. He was then called in as an emergency reliever in the top of the 14th inning.

In two innings of work, Gindl allowed one hit, struck out two batters and walked three batters. It was a little bit of everything from Gindl on the mound, but he was able to keep the Curve scoreless.

A third inning of work was not necessary from Gindl. The Flying Squirrels walked off in the bottom of the fifteenth inning to clinch a 2-1 win, and give Gindl the win to move his record to…1-0.

It was the first professional appearance on the mound for Gindl, who was drafted out of high school by the Milwaukee Brewers in the fifth round of the 2007 MLB Draft. Gindl appeared in 65 games for the Brewers in 2013 and 2014, but hasn’t made his way back to the big leagues since.

Caleb Gindl has had mixed results in 3625 plate appearances in the minor leagues. Through two innings pitched, however, Gindl has a perfect 0.00 ERA.
