Buster Posey is the Giants’ nominee for the 2017 Roberto Clemente Award, given annually to the MLB player who “best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual’s contribution to his team, as voted on by baseball fans and members of the media.”

Posey, 30, and his wife Kristin regularly visit pediatric oncology wards throughout the Bay Area, and started the Buster and Kristen Posey Fund in 2016, which provides “grants to research hospitals and charitable organizations that support children diagnosed with pediatric cancer.” Here’s a video via The San Jose Mercury News of a visit to Posey’s made to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek earlier this year.

You can donate to the Poseys’ fund here.

Posey would be the first Giants player to win the Roberto Clemente Award since Willie Mays won the inaugural award in 1971. Jake Peavy was the team’s nominee last season.
