Sandoval snaps 0-for-39 stretch by crushing three-run home run

Three-run home runs have been hard to come by for the San Francisco Giants this season.

Base hits have been hard to come by for Pablo Sandoval. Like, really hard.

But on Friday evening, Sandoval broke out of an 0-for-39 stretch, the longest hitless streak in Giants’ franchise history, with a towering three-run home run off of Chicago White Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito.

Sandoval’s average with the Giants had dipped by 100 points over the last 11 games, but after making an out in his first plate appearance on Friday, he finally produced the at-bat he and the rest of his teammates were waiting for.

Sandoval’s home run came on a Giolito changeup, and traveled an estimated 413 feet according to Statcast.

It also came with two outs, and knocked in Brandon Crawford and Nick Hundley.

The home run was Sandoval’s second since rejoining the Giants, as his first came back in Washington, D.C. against Nationals’ right-hander Max Scherzer.
