Bochy: Giants ‘owe it to everybody in baseball’ to play to win

SAN FRANCISCO–

The San Francisco Giants have been out of playoff contention since August, but manager Bruce Bochy assured fans they weren’t throwing in the towel against their rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“We have a responsibility to go out there and perform to the best of our ability,”

Bochy said. “It’s what you do at this time of year if you’re not in it”

The Giants are the worst in the division and nearly all of Major League Baseball (57-89) while the Dodgers stand at the top of the division (92-52). However, Bochy and the players know the impact they can still have as the National League West race winds down and the postseason approaches.

“I think they understand the importance of every game and how it can play a critical role in the standings or who gets there,” Bochy said. “You owe it to everybody in baseball.”

The Giants face an uphill climb on Tuesday night, as they’ll battle Dodgers’ ace Clayton Kershaw. Bochy will counter with Giants’ right-hander Johnny Cueto.
