Krueger: If Hoyer isn’t noticeably better on Thursday it’s time to start Beathard

There were signs of life from the San Francisco 49ers Week 2 when the team traveled to Seattle. The defense was noticeably better than it was Week 1, holding Seattle to 12 points in the Seahawk’s home opener.

The running game also looks to be trending upwards. Carlos Hyde also had himself a day, rushing for 124 yards on 15 carries, good for 8.3 yards a clip. Undrafted rookie Matt Breida also carved out a nice afternoon, running for 35 yards on only four carries.

But the air attack for the 49ers was a whole different story. Brian Hoyer failed to eclipse 100 yards in the game, completing 15 of his 27 passing attempts for 99 yards.

“Brian Hoyer has played particularly bad,” Larry Krueger said Monday afternoon. “They’re bad on third down. He’s been indecisive. He’s been inaccurate.

“And he’s not the future.”

Larry said the easy route for the 49ers would be to play Brian Hoyer for the first half of the season before turning the car over to rookie C.J. Beathard, but he thinks the team should take a more agressive approach on the situation.

“Hoyer looks really bad. And I would give him only the first half against the Rams to turn it around. If you don’t see noticeable offensive improvement Thursday night against the Rams in the first half, third quarter guess what? I’m going to C.J. Beathard.”

What do you think, is it too early for Beathard? Should the 49ers have been playing him all along? Let us know below.
