Reuben Foster out of boot, walking around ‘very well’

Rookie linebacker Reuben Foster looked like the best player on the field for the 49ers’ in Week 1, before sustaining a high ankle sprain in the second quarter that knocked him out of the game, and off the field for what was assumed to be around four weeks.

It appears Foster may be ahead of schedule, however, with Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reporting Tuesday that the linebacker is out of his walking boot, and appears to be moving around “very well.”

It’s nearly out of the question that Foster would be available for San Francisco’s Week 3 matchup with the Rams on Thursday, but there is at least an outside chance he could be for Week 4, when they travel to face the Arizona Cardinals after a 10 day layoff. Foster said after the Week 1 loss to the Panthers that he expected to be back “very very soon.”

Without Foster the 49ers defense played exceptional in Seattle on Sunday, holding the Seahawks to just 12 points despite being on the field for nearly 37 minutes.
