SANTA CLARA – Thursday Night Football came to an anticlimactic finish for San Francisco 49ers fans as the young team rallied several times to keep the Los Angeles Rams to a 2-point spread.

“I was proud of how they fought,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said after the game.

The 49ers had a rocky start after Hoyer nearly threw a pick-six 12 seconds into the game. However, the team rallied several times in the second half as Hoyer threw for 189yds and the defense mounted 2 turnovers

“We plan on getting better each week,” said Shanahan. “When you’re 0-3 and you’re facing some adversity you either get better or worse.”
Despite the loss Shanahan is still hungry for a win next week and is already planning how to earn their first win in Arizona.
“I don’t really care about the record right now,” said Shanahan. “I care about how guys are responding to it. I want these guys to come back Monday ready to go and ready to fight to get our first win.”
Hoyer’s offense mounted a heavy assault in the second half on what seemed like an insurmountable lead by the Rams.
“I think the one thing that I’m proud of and I learned is that we have the right guys,” said Hoyer.
We played till the end and that’s what you have to do, especially when you’re a young team, you’re trying to learn how to win. It takes time.”
The Niners get a much needed extra three days of rest before heading to Phoenix to face division opponents Arizona Cardinals.
“We have the right people in that locker room and the right coaches,” said Hoyer “Once we put it together it will be good and we have to play a complete game.”
