The 49ers have lost another key contributor on defense.
Starting DE Tank Carradine has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain sustained in the 49ers’ 41-39 loss to the Rams on Thursday, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Fears are the injury could be serious, as Shanahan said the team will have to determine whether to place Carradine on the injured reserve once they receive his MRI results.
The 49ers haven’t gotten back Carradine’s MRI. Shanahan said the team will have to determine whether to place him on IR. It’ll be a while.

Shanahan also said that he would be shocked if LB Reuben Foster is available to play next Sunday against the Cardinals in Week 4, as he continues to recover from a high ankle sprain of his own. Safety Eric Reid will also miss the game and “is behind Reuben” as he recovers from a PCL injury, meaning the 49ers will be without three of their most talented defensive players in Arizona.
Additionally, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, safety Jaquiski Tartt and linebacker Brock Coyle are all currently in the league’s concussion protocol.
