OAKLAND–The most recent issue of Sports Illustrated is centered around athletes protesting racial inequality, police brutality, and Donald Trump. The cover photoshops LeBron James, Steph Curry and Roger Goodell locking arms in a show of unity.

While the cover was most likely well-intentioned, it didn’t sit well with Steph Curry. Wednesday afternoon reporters asked Curry what he thought of Sports Illustrated leaving Colin Kaepernick off the cover, and he didn’t hold back.
“That was terrible,” Curry said. “It’s just kind of capitalizing on the hooplah in the media and all that nonsense. The real people that understand exactly what’s been going on and who’s really been active and vocal and truly making a difference, if you don’t have Kaepernick front and center on that then something’s wrong.”
The Sports Illustrated cover was met with criticism soon after being released. So much so that Executive Editor Steve Cannella went on video to explain the reasoning behind picture.
