After working out former Bengals defensive back Leon Hall several times, the 49ers have signed the veteran..

Hall has the capacity to play safety and cornerback, a position of need for the team. Both starting cornerbacks Dontae Johnson and Rashard Robinson have performed unevenly throughout the season. Meanwhile, starting strong safety Eric Reid injured his knee in the second game of the season and has yet to return.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said that Reid could start practicing Wednesday, however, it’s unclear he would play Sunday in Washington.

The 32-year-old Hall has what the 49ers grave – speed. He ran a 4.38 in the 2007 combine before the Bengals took him with the 18th overall pick in the 2007 draft. After a long career with the Bengals, Hall signed a one-year deal with the Giants last season. He was unsigned before working out with the 49ers.

Hall has made only six starts since 2014.
