Shanahan on Foster’s return: ‘We have a package for him’ in Washington

Rookie sensation Reuben Foster went through another full day of practice Thursday, however the tackle-mad linebacker will be limited Sunday when the 49ers visit the Redskins.

“I don’t expect to throw him out there for 60 to 80 plays,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said on Tolbert and Lund Thursday afternoon. “We will have a package for him.”

Foster sustained a high ankle sprain 11 plays into the 49ers’ season and has been shelved since. He returned to practice for the first time this week, and plenty of speculation had him replacing veteran NaVorro Bowman as the three-down linebacker.

That discussion will have to wait another week as Foster eases back into playing.

Foster is back to being his enthusiastic self, dancing before practice and yearning to play in every situation.
“Reuben is coming along,” Shanahan confirmed. “He wanted to come in a quarter after he was carted off.”

Shanahan also welcomed Tom Tolbert back to work by blaming the team’s 5-game losing streak on him.
“We haven’t won since I talked to you,” Shanahan joked. “I blame you for our losing streak right now.”

The comment is likely to change the line in Las Vegas without a doubt now that Tolbert is back on the air.
