Brian Hoyer benched for C.J. Beathard

The deal has finally been done, with Brian Hoyer once again ineffective to start the Redskins game, the 49ers made the move to rookie C.J. Beathard.

Hoyer has hovered near the bottom in completion percentage, touchdown-to-interception ratio, and quarterback rating. At one point in the Redskins game, Hoyer was 2 for 5 for minus 4 yards. His two completions were check down completions on third and long that had no chance to get the first down.

Coach Kyle Shanahan wouldn’t entertain benching Hoyer two weeks ago; however, he softened last week by saying that Beathard had looked better in practice. Beathard, a fifth-round pick, was played unevenly in the preseason. However, with Hoyer so horrendous, the 49ers had no choice but to give the rook a chance.
