Klay Thompson hopes to raise a quarter million dollars for North Bay fire relief

OAKLAND – There’s been a lot of talk recently about how athletes should ‘stick to sports’. This is one instance we all can agree on the opposite.

A little less than a week ago Thompson announced that he’ll donate $1,000 for every point he scores over the team’s three-game home stand (starting Tuesday night against the Raptors) to help those affected by the recent fires in the North Bay.

Tuesday morning Thompson shared that his goal is to raise a quarter million dollars for fire relief. He also added that Anta, the company that produces his signature shoe, will match every single dollar that he raises.

“I’ve been here for seven years, and I know a lot of people from the North Bay come to watch us play,” Thompson said. “And a lot of them lost their homes and everything they had. Even loved ones. So, I knew I could…I talk about wanting to be big in the community in the Bay Area,so this was a great step towards that.

“Yeah, any positivity you can bring in the world…doesn’t matter if it affects one person or a hundred people, it’s a great thing to do. Goes way beyond basketball.”

All the money Thompson raises will be donated to the Redwood Credit Union Community Fund. If you want to help out, you can check in on Klay’s pledge here. You can donate a one-time amount, or choose a dollar amount to give for every point he scores over the three game stretch.
