49ers sign offensive lineman, promote cornerback from practice squad

The San Francisco 49ers’ roster carousel continued this week, and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was the highest-profile rider to join the merry-go-round.

However, general manager John Lynch took care of a few other items of business this week, adding an offensive lineman as well as a cornerback to the team’s 53-man roster. On Wednesday afternoon, San Francisco announced that it had signed free agent lineman Bryce Harris to its roster and promoted cornerback Greg Mabin to the practice squad.

Harris spent time with the Falcons, Dolphins and Jaguars last season, but did not appear in a game during the 2016 campaign. In fact, Harris has only played in one game since the start of the 2015 season, but he does have more NFL experience than several other potential free agent signees as he appeared in 34 games between 2012-2014 for the New Orleans Saints.

Mabin entered the NFL this year as an undrafted free agent out Iowa and was originally signed to the 49ers’ practice squad on October 18. Mabin appeared in one game with the Bills earlier this season, a week five contest against the Bengals in which he registered his first career pass deflection.

On Wednesday, the 49ers also announced that safety Jimmie Ward was placed on injured reserve, while the team added defensive back Tyvis Powell to its practice squad.
