Durant: People in the Bay Area treat me like I’ve played here my whole career

It only took one season for Kevin Durant to deliver a title to the Bay Area, and it only took one season for the Bay Area to embrace Kevin Durant.

KD spoke with Bob Fitzgerald on KNBR 680 Tuesday afternoon, and talked about the connection he feels to Northern California, despite moving here just one summer ago.

“I’m enjoying my time here,” Durant said. “The people have been amazing and I feel like I’ve been playing here my whole career. To win a championship here, I walk into a restaurant and people just say ‘thank you’ and it’s just so much love. Coming from where I come from I never would’ve thought I’d be in California playing ball, and people painting murals of me on the wall.”

Durant also said he has made a point to explore different areas outside of his comfort zone ever since he made the move from Oklahoma City.

“It’s weird for me because I’m just like this creature of routine so I just had to get in my mind every single day ‘I’m taking this route to practice,’ or ‘this is how I get to downtown Oakland’ or ‘this is how I get to San Francisco,’” Durant said. “As I continue to do that day in and day out, it becomes more and more just a habit and that turns into home to me. I’m just getting used to where I live, where I’m going, where I have to go in order for me to be a part of this community, and then after that I’ll go exploring more and more around the Bay. So I’m just trying to get the basics down.”
