Buster Posey wins fourth Silver Slugger Award

For the fourth time in his career, Buster Posey has been voted as the best offensive catcher in the National League, and was awarded the 2017 Silver Slugger on Thursday afternoon. Posey also won the award in 2012, 2014 and 2015, and now joins Barry Bonds as the only players in Giants history to have won the award at least four times. Posey, 30, has a long way to go to match Bonds’ nine with San Francisco.

Posey was one of the few, and possibly only, consistant threat in what was statistically the lest effective lineup in the majors last season, and posted his best OPS (.861) since his MVP Award winning season in 2012, despite hitting just 12 home runs. Overall Posey finished the season with a line of .320/.400/.462.

No Giants player won the award last season after Posey, Madison Bumgarner and Brandon Crawford all won Silver Sluggers in 2015.
