Kevin Durant to sit out Sunday’s game with injured ankle

Warriors’ star Kevin Durant played a critical role in igniting Golden State’s 24-point comeback to defeat the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night.

If the Warriors fall behind in Brooklyn on Sunday, they won’t have the luxury of relying on Durant. Golden State announced early Sunday morning that the forward will sit out the back end of the team’s back-to-back with a left ankle sprain suffered in the midst of Saturday’s win.

It’s unclear when Durant injured his ankle and how severe the injury is, but he’ll sit for the second time this season as he also missed a Warriors’ home game with a right thigh contusion. The Warriors are likely hoping Durant will be back in form by Wednesday night for the final contest of the team’s four-game road trip when Golden State travels to Oklahoma City to take on Durant’s former team, the Thunder.

On Saturday, Durant scored 27 points in 33 minutes on the floor, finishing 11-for-20 from the field with five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.
