Injuries continue, 49ers put two more on IR

The 49ers string of season-long injuries continues. The team placed offensive lineman Eric Magnuson and running back and special teams ace Raheem Mostart on injured reserve. Magnuson injured his foot early in the first half and gutted out the rest of the game while facing Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Bennett.

Mostart was the leader on a team that’s been excellent covering kicks and he had a chance to be a Pro Bowl core special teams player as a gunner.

Coach Kyle Shanahan was impressed Magnuson played the entire game with his injury.

“He toughed it out, played the whole game,” Shanahan remarked. “I was pretty amazed. I have a lot of respect for that guy for staying out there and battling.”

Shanahan said Magnuson, an undrafted free agent from Michigan, made the team as a guard and center. He was then moved out to tackle because of injuries.

“He has been thrown in there to play tackle, and the game is not too big for him,” Shanahan said. When told just hours before the game that he’d start for Trent Brown, Shanahan said Magnuson never flinched.

“The guy was fired up to get an opportunity. He loves going in there and playing. He’s not scared to fail.”

Starting tackle Trent Brown is still day-to-day after injuring his shoulder in pregame warmups. The 49ers will need to sign another tackle before Sunday’s game in Chicago.
