Arroyo, not Panik, involved in latest proposed Stanton trade [report]

Up until Monday afternoon, Giants’ prospect Christian Arroyo was one of the franchise’s few young assets who had yet to be mentioned as a candidate to be swapped for Miami Marlins’ slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

Then, the latest report dropped from Siriux XM radio host Craig Mish.

Mish reported the Giants’ first round draft pick from 2013 was named in the latest deal that would send Stanton to the Giants, and that neither San Francisco second baseman Joe Panik or Miami second baseman Dee Gordon were involved in the swap.

Arroyo made his Major League debut with the Giants this year, hitting .192 in 125 at-bats before being sent down to the Minor Leagues. Arroyo likely would have returned to the Giants after the All-Star break, but he was forced to the disabled list with a season-ending injury in July after being hit on the hand.

Arroyo’s fractured hand cost him the second half of the season, but it might not sway the Marlins from having interest in a player who can fit in all over the infield. Arroyo is projected as an above average Major League hitter, and won’t turn 23 until May of next year.

It’s possible that a deal between the Marlins and the Giants could be struck within the coming days, but San Francisco has yet to receive word on whether Stanton would be willing to waive his no-trade clause to come play at AT&T Park.
