SANTA CLARA – New 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has learned the Kyle Shanahan offense with lightening-like speed and his teammates have quickly embraced him. However, Garoppolo has been a little slow to call 49ers’ fans by the right name.

After Sunday’s 26-16 win in Houston, Garoppolo referred to the 49ers’ fan base as “49ers’ nation” just like “Raiders nation.” He quickly learned from social media that 49ers fans have always been called the “49ers Faithful.” Garoppolo was in full apology mode on Wednesday.

“My friends, in a group text, all texted me and were like, ‘Man, you’ve got to get this right. Come on, these are your fans now.’” Garoppolo said. “It was just a little funny thing.”

Fans are likely to forgive him, particularly if he continues to win. Garoppolo has won his four NFL starts, including his last two with the 49ers. He will get his first opportunity to play in front of the “Faithful” this Sunday at Levi’s when the 49ers face the Titans.
