Giants looking at reunion with two former players [report]

In what has been a quiet MLB Winter Meetings for the Giants, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Bay Area reported on Wednesday that the team is continuing it’s interest in reuniting with free agents Eduardo Nunez and Nick Hundley.

Over parts of two seasons with the Giants, Nunez batted .293 with eight home runs and 31 stolen bases. Nunez was traded to San Francisco in 2016 after three years with the Minnesota Twins and played a role in propelling the Giants to the Wild Card game.

Following his emotional mid-game trade to the Boston Red Sox this July, Nunez strained his right knee in his first at bat of the postseason, adding another chapter into what’s been an injury-riddled career.

Regardless, the Giants aren’t the only team interested in signing Nunez, as Jon Heyman reported on Wednesday, and this could potentially increase the price for the third baseman.

As for Hundley, the backup catcher played 101 games for the Giants last season, batting .244 with nine home runs. In a year where the Giants experienced one of their worst records in over 30 years, Hundley’s clubhouse leadership and positive mindset helped keep the Giants afloat.

Although his doesn’t present an expensive option as a backup catcher, Hundley’s success in San Francisco could attract other interested parties, who are prepared to offer the catcher more than the Giants can afford.
