It was a challenging year for families in the North Bay, so one Giants’ Minor League pitcher decided to spend the holiday season raising money for a community that lost so much.
On Tuesday evening, Giants’ prospect Tyler Cyr announced on Twitter that he had successfully raised $1,000 to purchase baseball equipment for fire victims who lost everything in Sonoma and Napa, and that the equipment was en route to Northern California.
Cyr is a Fremont, California native who noted that the idea to donate equipment was floated around during his time in the Arizona Fall League.
Brought in this New Year with a gift of giving. WE did it! Reached our goal of 1k & blessed with amazing teammates who donated quality professional gear that is in route to Northern California! Thank you all for your selfless acts of a donation & a simple retweet pic.twitter.com/6vhUaHu5lc

Aside from raising $1,000 to purchase brand new gear, Cyr said several teammates also donated their gear to the cause.
This is a break down of the equipment. 16 bats
Full set catchers gear
Dozens of batting gloves Half dozen evo shield elbow/shin guards
Half dozen evo shield wrist guards
36 cleats/turfs new/great condition— Tyler Cyr (@tycyr93) January 3, 2018
Cyr and several other Bay Area natives including former Giants’ left-hander Noah Lowry are scheduled to hold a benefit clinic on Friday afternoon in Santa Rosa. Players who were displaced by the fires are welcome to attend the clinic free of charge.
Giants fans who might want to thank Cyr in person could have the opportunity to do so in the near future, as he’s coming off a promising campaign as a AA closer for the Richmond Flying Squirrels and could begin the 2018 season at AAA Sacramento. If Cyr continues to progress, it’s possible he’ll be pitching for the Giants at the Major League level within the next two seasons.
