Patrick McCaw requests tune-up minutes in G-League

It takes a big man to admit his shortcomings, and even though Patrick McCaw weighs in at only 185 pounds, he’s big enough to face the reality of his recent struggles. So much so, that he’s requested  more minutes in the G-League to get back on track, which he revealed during practice on Wednesday afternoon.

“Probably about last week,” McCaw said when asked when he came to the decision. “I just asked to go down there and get some consistent runs, get up and down, get my condition right. Just play. For me, that’s all I really want to do. Just going down to G-League, get some reps in, and staying ready.”

In his last four games, McCaw hadn’t scored a single point, missing two three-pointers and five field goal attempts with three turnovers. Although he saw over 27 minutes against the Sacramento Kings on Friday, McCaw’s minutes have taken a hit, playing less than a minute against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday and just under 10 against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday.

“Just a tad,” McCaw said when asked if he felt out of sync. “Just getting back into the flow, a rhythm, for myself and the team. Just finding myself and my rhythm and how I’m going to play. When I head to G-League, just try to have fun and play with a lot of guys I’m cool with, so that’ll be fun.”

With support from head coach Steve Kerr, McCaw hopes this decision will give him more time to work out of his slump and help him play up to his potential.

“Just play free, play like me, like I know I can,” McCaw said. “The coaches are preaching that. The players are teaching that. That’s my main goal, just getting back to myself.”
