Vontae Davis visiting with 49ers [report]

Veteran cornerback Vontae Davis is spending Tuesday with the San Francisco 49ers after making previous visits to Buffalo and Cleveland, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Davis, 29, is a two time Pro Bowler (2014, 2015), but played in just five games last season before opting to have season-ending groin surgery, leading the Colts to release him after six seasons. Davis was a first-round draft pick by the Dolphins in 2009, and also happens to be the brother of former 49ers tight end Vernon Davis.

Cornerback is probably the 49ers most pressing need heading into the 2018 free agency period. Dontae Johnson started 16 games for San Francisco last season but graded out as one of the worst corners in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus. The 49ers are not expected to re-sign Johnson who is a free agent.

The 49ers drafted Ahkello Witherspoon in the third-round of last year’s draft, and he has a good chance to win one of the starting jobs after a promising rookie season. K’Waun Williams is also expected to reprise his role as a slot corner in 2018.
