Longoria provides update on ankle inflammation

After he was scratched from Friday’s lineup with a sore heel, Evan Longoria clarified the minor issue that kept him out of Saturday’s lineup as well, stating that he has been dealing with inflammation and swelling of his left ankle joint.

“It just flared up on me the other day, but it’s nothing to be nervous about,” Longoria said. “It’s spring training and something I’ll work through. I’m just going to take a couple days off and let it heal up.”

Longoria stressed that there was no structural damage, but he didn’t want to push it too hard this early in the spring.

“It’s spring training, you don’t need to try to push through at this point,” he said.

“When I feel ready, I’ll play. I don’t think it’s anything to be worried about long term,” Longoria added. “It’s probably a true day-to-day thing. We’ll see how I feel when I come in tomorrow.”

Longoria will try to make the start for Sunday’s 3:05 match up against the Padres at Scottsdale Stadium. He is batting 4-14 over six games this spring and has accounted for one home run and three RBI.
