49ers to meet with former Saints cornerback [report]

The 49ers are likely done making splashy moves during the free agent period, but haven’t stopped kicking the tires on players that remain available.

One of those players is former Saints cornerback Delvin Breaux, who will meet with the 49ers this week, according to Saints beat writer Joel A. Erickson.

Breaux, 28, has spent his entire three-year NFL career with the Saints (2015-2017), signing after spending time in both the Canadian and Arena Football Leagues from 2012-2014. Breaux started all 16 games with the Saints in 2015, and was graded as one of the better corners in the league by Pro Football Focus. Breaux has played in just six games over the past two seasons, however, breaking his fibula twice during that span. Breaux will also meet with the Packers this week, and has already met with the Broncos and Patriots.

Cornerback was arguably the 49ers biggest need heading into the free agency period, one they addressed by signing four-time All-Pro Richard Sherman to a three-year deal. It is assumed that Sherman will join sophomore Ahkello Witherspoon as the team’s starting corners next season, but the 49ers have remained active, visiting with a number of free agent cornerbacks over the past week.
