Giants shuffle rotation following postponement of Friday’s game

Due to a rainstorm that postponed Friday’s Giants-Dodgers game until April 28, Bruce Bochy has decided to shake up the Giants’ rotation for the next two games at AT&T Park.

According to Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic:

Giants manager Bruce Bochy tinkered with his rotation a bit. After initially deciding simply to push everyone back, with left-hander Derek Holland pitching Saturday and right-hander Chris Stratton on Sunday, Bochy reversed course.

Now, Stratton will start Saturday on regular rest against Dodgers left-hander Rich Hill. And left-hander Ty Blach will reprise his season-opening matchup with Clayton Kershaw on Sunday. Holland was pushed back to start Monday’s series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The rainout also likely affects when the Giants will need to call up a fifth starter. It was probable that either Andrew Suarez or Tyler Beede would get called up on Tuesday. That will now be pushed to Wednesday, with Cueto pitching on regular rest against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. The hope is that the Giants will only need to use whoever they call up just once, if Jeff Samardzija is indeed healthy enough to rejoin the rotation by the end of the month.
