Stephen Curry ‘is still not close to playing’ [report]

If you’ve watched pregame coverage of any of the Golden State Warriors’ first round matchup against the San Antonio Spurs, you’ve seen Stephen Curry on the court shooting, dribbling, running, and generally basketballing on his way back from his sprained right knee.

If you’re like us, you probably thought that meant Curry was getting close to returning to the court.

If you were like us, it appears that you were wrong.

According to KNBR frequenter Marcus Thompson via his story in The Athletic, ‘Curry is still not close to playing,’ and has not reached the final stages of his recovery process.

Curry sprained his right knee back on March 23 when JaVale McGee went up for a rebound and fell on side of the two-time MVP’s left knee.

When Curry was originally injured, the Warriors said his recovery process would take anywhere from four to six weeks. Friday, April 20 would be the four week marker on the dot, with the six week point coming on May 4.

According to Thompson’s report, if the Warriors wrap up the Spurs in a short series – and the the Pelicans do the same – a second round matchup could start as early as April 28. If either of those two series makes it to a sixth game, the second round would start on May 1.

If you’re doing the math, then yes, it looks likely that Curry would miss the start of the Warriors’ second round matchup, if they in fact advance past the Spurs.
